Jarrod Washburn Still A Mariner (As of 5:05 EST)

Although ESPN is reporting that a Jarrod Washburn to Yankees deal is all but done, Shannon Drayer from KOMO radio in Seattle is telling me that she has spoken to Jarrod Washburn within the hour and "he has not heard from his agent Scott Boras and has not been asked to waive his no-trade clause". (I assume ESPN means all but done in terms of the player knowing anything)

I also asked her how Washburn would fit in New York, and she stated that he is "smart and media savvy and would do just fine in New York" and that the talk of a fall out with catcher Kenji Johjima was "blown way out of proportion". The Mariners are in Toronto until tomorrow, and I appreciate Shannon taking a couple of minutes during the road trip to keep me (and my readers) in the know.

5:21 pm- Buster Olney is reporting that the Washburn deal is strictly going to be a salary dump and will be completed within the next 48 hours, so that fits with Washburn not having heard anything. No mentions of Kei Igawa or Jose Vidro. Washburn is due a little over 10 mil next year, but he is a good back of the rotation guy, which any team can always use. As Shannon said to me earlier "He is very durable, he is a bulldog and will battle every time he goes out there. His numbers of late have been some of the best he has had in Seattle. Historically he is streaky. Long winning streaks, long losing streaks. In that regard, it might be a good time to pick him up." Certainly better than Darrell Rasner.
