2 University of Maine Baseball Players Earn Awards

University of Maine baseball senior outfielder Kevin McAvoy (Brewer, Maine) was named the America East Player of the Week on Monday, while freshman designated hitter Ian Leisenheimer (Middle Village, N.Y.) was named the America East Rookie of the Week. It is the third time in as many weeks that Maine has received two of the three weekly honors.

McAvoy had a huge week to lead the Black Bears to a record of 5-2 in seven games in the Rollins College Baseball Week Tournament. He hit .500 with 10 runs scored and nine RBI. McAvoy had four home runs and two doubles. He was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI in Maine's 12-8 win over Georgetown. He belted two home runs in the game. He followed that up by going 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI in the second game of the day against Rollins. McAvoy hit his third home run of the day in the game.

Ian Leisenheimer was named America East Rookie of the Week for second week in a row. He hit .414 with nine runs scored and 12 RBI in seven games for the Black Bears last week. He was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI in Maine's 5-2 win over Penn. He tied a school record with two triples in the game. Leisenheimer was 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI in Maine's 11-7 win over Georgetown. He belted a home run in the game.
