PORTLAND SEA DOGS WITH ANOTHER WALK OFF

Portland RF Bubba Bell delivered a 2-out, broken bat RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Sea Dogs (8-9) a walk-off victory over the Binghamton Mets (9-7), 9-8 on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in front of 4,031 fans. Portland scored three times off losing pitcher Roydrick Merritt (0-1), who allowed his first 3 runs of the season and blew the save (first out of nine opportunities).

Portland RHP Justin Hedrick (1-0) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning to pick up his first win in the Red Sox organization.

The rally in the ninth inning began with a one-out walk to C Juan Apodaca. With two outs, 2B Ryan Khoury singled and 1B Lars Anderson walked to load the bases. LF Aaron Bates tied the game at eight with a 2-run single to right-center field. Bells hit came on a 2-2 pitch and squirted through the hole between third and short.

The Sea Dogs were behind 7-2 but added two runs off RHP Fernando Nieve in the sixth inning. Bates scored the third run on a passed ball and 3B Jorge Jimenez greeted RHP Tim McNabb with a run-scoring double down the right-field line. In the eighth inning, the Dogs pulled within two, thanks to a 2-run single by DH Jon Still off Nieve. Still tied the game in the second inning with a solo-homer over the Maine Monster.

Binghamton scored six runs off Portland starter RHP Adam Mills over two innings. In the second, DH D.J. Wabick drilled a 2-run double with two outs. In the third inning, the B-Mets had five consecutive singles off Mills, producing two runs. 1B Lucas Duda, 3B Shawn Bowman, 2B Jonathan Malo and Wabick all had run-scoring singles for the visitors.

Portlands bullpen yielded only four hits and two runs over the final six innings. RHP Chad Rhoades worked three innings on two hits and one run. RHP Richie Lentz gave up a run in .2 IP and LHP Dustin Richardson did not allow a run in 1.1 IP.

Game Notes Portland has scored 24 runs in the last two games, raising their batting average 25 points. Still has both of his home runs at Hadlock Field, Bates picked up his 5th multi-hit game of the season.
