SEA DOG JORGE JIMENEZ NAMED EL PLAYER OF THE WEEK




EASTERN LEAGUE ANNOUNCES WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS

PORTLAND, ME – The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending April 19th.

Portland Sea Dogs third baseman Jorge Jimenez has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending April 19th. The 24-year old is off to an outstanding start for the Sea Dogs, hitting .389 (14-for-36) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, 11 RBI, five runs scored, four walks and a .583 slugging percentage in 10 games this season. Jimenez, who is a native of Santurce, Puerto Rico, had a seven-game hitting streak from April 11th-18th during which he hit .538 and drove in at least one run in each of the seven games. He had five multiple hits games during the streak, including going 4-for-5 with one homer, three RBI and two runs scored in a 12-4 victory at Binghamton on April 18th. The 6’1”, 210 lb. slugger is currently ranked second in the league in batting, tied for second in RBI, tied for third in hits, tied for sixth in total bases (21), ranked seventh in OPS (1.033) and eighth in on-base percentage (.450). Jorge, who was selected as the third baseman on the 2008 California League All-Star Team after hitting .352 with 47 runs scored and 42 RBI in 70 games with the Lancaster JetHawks last year, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 15th round of the 2006 draft out of Porterville College in California.
