Rob Kruz led all scorers with 25 points for the visiting Fort Wayne Mad Ants (13-19) as they topped the Red Claws (20-14) 118-110 at the Portland Expo Building. Teammate Dan Dickau tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists.
With a 95-90 advantage midway through the fourth quarter, Fort Wayne went on an 8-2 run over a three minute stretch to take an 11-point lead as they were able to hold on for the win. The Mad Ants shot just under 40 percent from beyond the arc, hitting 13 three-pointers while the Red Claws made just five threes in the loss.
The Red Claws trailed by as much as 13 in the game but cut the deficit to just two points (82-80) after going on a 12-2 run late in the third quarter. Morris Almond scored nine points in the run before finishing with 21 points in the game. Teammate Russell Robinson led Maine with 23 points and five assists while Paul Davis powered his way to 17 points and eight boards.
The Red Claws and Mad Ants will square off again tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Expo.
