Baseball
The Red Sox were 3 outs away from a 4 game winning streak, a sweep of the Blue Jays, and renewed hope in their attempt at the playoffs. They ended up with a 6-5 loss.

Jonathan Papelbon has come up with a knack for flat performances at the wrong time. He wasn't arrested, though, as Gordon Edes writes.

Football
The Patriots kicked off the preseason with a win over the defending Super Bowl Champs.

Tom Brady looked good.

Torry Holt is not expected to make this team.

Hockey
Kevin Dineen and Eric Weinrich are returning to the Pirates this year.
