Lindsey Nolette launched her team to victory, as Sanford pulled off the mild-upset over Cheverus. Nolette scored 17 points for the Redskins as this one came down to the closing seconds in one of the more entertaining games of the tournament so far.
It was Cheverus who pulled ahead first, using an 11-2 run to take the lead 13-6 after the first quarter. Brooke Flaherty paced the Stags with 6 points in the quarter.
Then Sanford took over. 6 different Redskins scored, including 9 from Nolette, as Sanford took a 27-20 lead into halftime.
GAME REPLAY
Cheverus got back into it early in the second half, with Morgan Cahill leading the charge. Cahill scored the first 4 points of the quarter for the Stags, and scored 11 of her team-high 15 in the quarter. Nolette hit a big 3 to slow down Cheverus' momentum, and the defense started to pick up. Sanford took a slim 35-33 lead into the fourth quarter.
Nolette would a hit a 3 to start the quarter, but Cheverus would go on a run to take the lead with five minutes to go. Shea Riley had a big 3-point play as Sanford took back the lead. They wouldn't relinquish it this time, as Cheverus couldn't pull even and eventually ran out of time. Sanford now moves on to the semifinals, which will be held at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
