Leavitt stings Lake Region

Leavitt started strong from the opening tip and ran Lake Region off the court, as the Hornets cemented their spot in the Western Maine final with a 60-35 win.

The Hornets limited the Lakers to one early field goal in the first quarter, and Courtney Anderson paced Leavitt with 5 points as they led 13-2 eight minutes in.

Leavitt would go on a 15-0 run since it was tied 2-2, as Anderson, Adrianna Newton, and Abbey Randall would lead the Hornet assault. A stifling full-court press and pedal-to-the-metal pace would help the Hornets pull away. The Lakers managed only 5 field goals in the first half, and Tiana-Jo Carter's outstanding defense was neutralized by Leavitt's transition offense. The Hornets would take a 35-13 lead into halftime.

Lake Region would start the second half on a 6-0 run, led by a Sydney Hancock 3-pointer, but Leavitt would answer with a 7-0 run of its own. Leavitt continued to pull away as the quarter went on. Leavitt would end the quarter with two straight Kristen Anderson to Courtney Anderson plays. The fourth quarter was all but a wash as Lake Region had nothing left in the tank to come back in this one. Kristen Anderson was named the Eli's Soda Player of the Game after filling up the stat sheet and pushing the tempo all game long. Leavitt will now head to the Western Maine Final on Saturday.
