Baseball: Colby knocks off Husson

Nikolas Atsalis (West Hyannis Port, Mass.) had a three-run home run among his four hits and Taro Gold (Belmont, Mass.) smacked a homer and had a pair of doubles as the Colby Colby College baseball team exploded for 19 hits in a 13-1 non-conference win over Husson University on Thursday.

Richard Newton (Arlington, Mass.), Colby’s leading hitter this season, went 4-for-5 and scored three runs.

Dom Morrill (South Thomaston, Maine) worked six innings to earn the victory for the Mules (7-10).

The Mules scored at least one run in the first six innings of the contest. Colby led 2-0, with the homer from Gold coming in the second inning, when Atsalis ripped his three-run homer in the third inning. The Mules scored two runs in each of the next three innings to pull away.

Shawn Smith (Winterport, Maine) had one hit, walked, and scored the lone run for Husson in the eighth inning. Josh Gaudette (Waterville, Maine) finished with a double and drove in the Eagle run with a sacrifice fly. Ethan Guerette (Sabbatus, Maine) also doubled for Husson (13-11).

Colby will play host to St. Joseph’s College on Friday at 4 p.m. The game will be Webcast here.
