University of Maine freshman third baseman Alex Calbick (Burnaby British Columbia) was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Monday, May 9. It is the second Rookie of the Week honor for Calbick this season, who also earned the honor on Feb. 28.
Calbick hit .500 for the Black Bears last week with four runs scored and seven RBI. He belted his first career triple of the weekend and also recorded his first career two home run game. Calbick finished the weekend with a 1.071 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.
Calbick went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI in Maine's 19-6 win over the Great Danes in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. He had a triple in the game.
Calbick went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and five RBI in Maine's 8-3 win in the second game. He had a two-run home run in the first inning and followed that up with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
Calbick is hitting .280 on the season with 19 runs scored and 25 RBI. He has six doubles, four home runs and one triple.
Calbick and the Black Bears return to action on Tuesday, May 10 when they face Northeastern at Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
