Baseball: Maine headed to North Carolina



The University of Maine baseball team found out on Monday that it will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in the NCAA Regionals. The Black Bears will face the Tar Heels on Friday, June 3. Game time is set for 6 PM at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill.

North Carolina (45-14) is the top seed in the regional and the third national seed. Florida International University is the second seed in the regional with a record of 40-18. James Madison, the third seed in the regional, rounds out the field with a record of 40-17.

Maine last advanced to the NCAA Tournament during the 2006 season when it was placed in the North Carolina regional as well. The Tar Heels, the sixth national seed at the time, won the game 15-7.

The Black Bears and Tar Heels played a three-game set last season with North Carolina winning two of the three games. UNC leads the all-time series 5-2.

Maine last played FIU in 2008 and dropped the game 13-6. The two teams have played 29 times with FIU leading the series 19-10. Maine last faced James Madison in 1986. The Black Bears are 2-0 all-time against JMU.
