A Pre-Emptive Strike

I am doing this now before I have to hear and read endlessly about all the reasons why the Patriots should deal for Ladanian Tomlinson, should the rumors be true that he is on the trading block--I will admit at least it would end the 'Trade Tom Brady' talk. Here are the reasons not to deal for him.

First, I don't like him. Besides the dancing issue from 2006, he is so self-absorbed it's disgusting. In the SI piece, LT talks about being upset that these rumors about him being on the trading block are in the media and how it has become a big story, so he takes the high road and compares what the Bolts are doing to him to being crucified...in the media. Not sure if he or Jim Trotter know what rumor means or that it could have come from any where besides the Bolts, nor am I sure that LT understands that by going to the media, he is not doing anything to help lessen the size of the story in the media.

Second, he is at an age when running backs decline and he has already shown he is in decline. After rushing for 1,815 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2006, LT has seen his yardage drop by three hundred yards each season since. His 3.8 ypc and 11 touchdowns were his lowest totals since his rookie season. Let's also not forget that he has not been healthy in the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, an indication he cannot withstand the pounding of being a full-time back and still be productive (much less healthy) come post-season time.

So please, for the love of God, let's not talk about getting LT as though this is the LT of 3 years ago. Instead, let's remember what happened to Shaun Alexander the three seasons following his MVP season and leave LT out of of New England.
