The Maine Red Claws today announced that forward Bill Walker has been assigned to the to the team by the Boston Celtics. Walker is the team’s first assignment from the NBA this season.
Walker, a 6’6” forward, has appeared in one game for the Celtics this season and has logged two minutes of playing time. The Kansas State product has posted career averages of 2.9 points and 1.0 rebound in 7.2 minutes per game over 30 games with the Celtics.
This is Walker’s second assignment to the NBA D-League. In 15 games with the Utah Flash last season, he averaged 18.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 points in 30.5 minutes. Scoring in double-figures in 14 games, Walker scored a career-high 29 points in a Nov. 29, 2008 road loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in McAllen, Texas.
Walker arrived in Portland this afternoon and will be ready to participate in practice tomorrow morning as well as the Red Claws’ scheduled scrimmage tomorrow night. The Red Claws will play a Red-White scrimmage tomorrow night at the Portland Expo. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door or online through TicketReturn.com; all proceeds will benefit the Play It Smart Program at Portland High School.
On Monday, the Red Claws will travel to the Augusta Civic Center to face the Springfield Armor in their lone preseason games. Tickets from that game range from $5 to $25 and are available at the Augusta Civic Center Box Office, online at ticketmaster.com or by calling (207) 626-2400. The Augusta Civic Center Box Office is open 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. The game will start at 7:00 PM, and before the game, the Red Claws will host a special lecture-style basketball clinic from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM to be followed by a player autograph session from 4:30 PM - 5:00 PM. Both events are open to all fans with a ticket to the game.
