Pirates Lose Gerbe to Sabres

Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have recalled forward Nathan Gerbe from Portland of the American Hockey League.

Gerbe, 22, has recorded five goals and 15 assists for 20 points in 23 games with the Pirates this season. In 2008-09, Gerbe was named the AHL’s Rookie of the Year with 30 goals and 26 assists for 56 points in 57 games. Gerbe was also recalled twice to Buffalo last season, and finished with one assist in 10 games.

A native of Oxford, MI, Gerbe was Buffalo’s fifth-round selection (142nd overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

The Pirates return to action with road games Friday and Saturday. Friday the Pirates head to Hartford to meet the Wolf Pack at 7 p.m. Saturday it’s the Pirates and the Springfield Falcons at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard live on New Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.

The next Pirates homes games take place December 18th and 19th when the Springfield Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers visit the Cumberland County Civic Center respectively.
