#RedClaws Blow Out the Lights and Ft. Wayne

Maurice Almond shot the lights out on Thursday night, scoring 40 points for the Red Claws (21-14) in their 122-97 win over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (13-20) at the Portland Expo Building.

The Red Claws shot over 63% from the floor in the first quarter where they took a 44-28 lead at the end of the frame. With a 14-12 advantage at the 8:27 mark, Maine went on a 23-6 run that lasted over six minutes. Fort Wayne was never able to come back.

High winds and driving rain knocked out power in much of the city midway through the third quarter. The building went dark for less than 30 seconds before the building’s backup generators kicked on. Play continued several minutes later, as did the hot shooting of the Red Claws with reduced lighting, no scoreboard and play-by-play called by the public address announcer using a bullhorn.

Darnell Lazare also had a strong game for Maine with 20 points while Maurice Ager scored 19. Jared Reiner led the Mad Ants with 18 points while Ron Howard finished with 15. The game marked the one-year anniversary of the announcement of the Maine Red Claws franchise on February 25, 2010.

The Red Claws will continue play on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. when they play host to the Erie Bay Hawks
