Red Claws dent Armor

The Maine Red Claws (7-7) moved back to the .500 win with a solid win over rival Springfield (4-9), 114-103. For the Armor, their long holiday trip, extended by the recent snow storms, finally comes to an end with their second consecutive road loss.

Maine was hot from the three point line, finishing the night 14 for 21 (66.7%), led by Jamar Smith’s 6 for 7. Guard Matt Janning hit a three pointer at the buzzer to end the second quarter to give the Red Claws a 27 point lead going into half time.

The outstanding shooting from the Red Claws continued in the second half with back-to-back three pointers from Matt Janning. The Armor caught up to the Red Claws during the third quarter, but Maine outshot and out rebounded the Armor to hold Springfield at bay and take home the 114-103 victory.

Maine’s Jamar Smith had an outstanding shooting night, contributing a total of 20 points, all in the first half before being sidelined in third quarter with a minor leg injury. Tiny Gallon added 18, DeShawn Sims had 16, and Kenny Hayes scored 17 to earn tonight victory.

Springfield’s Jerry Smith contributed 26 points to lead the Armor in the losing cause, while JamesOn Curry added 20 and Tre Whitted had 14 points.

The Red Claws return to action Thursday with a much-anticipated rematch with the Erie BayHawks. Erie will then head to Massachusetts for the first of two against the BayHawks.

RED CLAWS, WINTER KIDS TEAM UP TO KEEP MAINE KIDS WARM THIS WINTER: The Red Claws will join with Winter Kids to collect new and gently used hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and warm socks before this Thursday’s game vs. the Erie BayHawks. The items will be distributed by Winter Kids to Maine children in need. All fans attending the game are encouraged to bring items to donate, and everyone making a donation can enter to win great Red Claws prizes.
