It's Jets Week!

Which means that I probably won't be seeing my father!

Seriously though, for Patriots and Jets fans, what better week is there? Pats fans have been listening to Jets players and Rex Ryan run their mouths all summer. Jets fans have been... well, they've been listening to Rex Ryan run his mouth all summer too. But it has the opposite effect on them.

Yes, Rex Ryan is amusing. His constant cursing is something I can certainly relate too. His scheduling of snack time is something that makes me think he may not be all that bad. But then he talks too much. And then I feel an overwhelming need to rip his head off. Do not underestimate the damage that a small blond girl can inflict on a fat man.

Now, I have to be breif this week because I need to call Switzerland this morning, but I'm going to tell you what is going to happen:

It's definitely going to be a good match up. How will the Patriots' young defense fare against the Jets' biggest and baddest? Alternately, how will Mark Sanchez do against Tom Brady?

After last week, I'm relatively confident in the Pats defense. They're young and they're inexperienced, but they held their own. Plus, Mark Sanchez isn't exactly the QB Mastermind that Tom Brady is. I watch Tom Brady and I think, "This guy is a genius. He sees everything." When I watch Mark Sanchez I think, "Poor cupcake. He has no friggin' idea what's going on and no connection with his offense."

Our inexperienced defense is smarter than Mark Sanchez. Mark Sanchez showed last week that he just can't cut it when they're down. He's not half the leader that Tom Brady is, he can't look at the field when the Jets need one touchdown to win and lead his team to victory.

And as far as Mr. Darelle Revis goes: Go ahead and shut down Randy Moss. It's not something that I want to see happen, but if you shut down Moss, Brady can still pass to Welker, Edelman, Taylor, and GRONK! ... just to name a few. Moss is a great asset to the team, but he isn't the be all end all of scoring touchdowns.

Conclusion: The Patriots are going to kick some Jets ass. Sorry, Dad.

Samantha Lewis is a sucker for football season and Tom Brady, despite his Beiber-esque haircut. She has contacted Rex Ryan to arrange a duel, but her calls were never returned. You can follow her on Twitter here!

Update: WHDH has video of the accident and more details.

On the Patriots decision not to hire a defensive coordinator:
"Part of me wonders if the Patriots don't want a pay a (defensive coordinator)"

In the Crease With Javier Gorriti-The Chin vs. The Neck

This is it. The annual game of the year between the Pats and Colts. Fans from both cities enter this week a little nervous, excited and straining with anticipation. The debate rages. Who is better, Manning or Brady? Clearly they are both great QB's, maybe two of the best to ever play the game.

For the rest of the country the debate never ends. Who is more annoying? Is it Brady with his dimpled chin, good looks, modeling shoots and wayward children, or Manning with his clean-cut persona, goofy charm, and his endless commercials?

Strong cases can be made for both.

The onslaught which is the "Manning commercial machine" has Peyton in our living rooms constantly. It literally never ends. Whether it's Peyton trying to stuff Oreos down our throats, or pimping NFL Sunday Ticket he simply never goes away. I find myself wondering how Peyton ever gets to practice. Of course, every time one watches a Colts game we are reminded about the rout-tree he and his chosen receivers run before every game. We are reminded that the almighty Manning has to invite said receivers to the pre-game tree. No loser third string nobody is going to throw off Peyton's pre-game warm up ritual. We are also reminded incessantly of Peyton's legendary work ethic and attention to detail. The adoration and adulation of the commentators on a weekly basis with regards to said super-QB makes anyone watching feel inferior and lucky to be in the same room, even if he's on our TV. (Editor's note:This is called "The Tim Tebowing of America")

Tom Brady and his supermodel wife remind us all every day of how great it is to be Tom-Terrific and how not great it is to be us schlepping to work every day, hoping we can pay the bills at the end of each month and hoping that our significant others might actually hit the gym at some point. Tom's GQ shoots, or even worse his Stetson ads are revolting. Quarterbacks should be tough and focused. Tom is in focus, but when we see pictures of Tommy carrying Gisele's bags and wearing a Yankee hat while he prances around Greenwich Village, it's very, very difficult to associate toughness with him. Tom has three rings. Tom is a winner. Tom is cool under fire and always comes up big in big games. Tom has a kid in LA he never sees. I don't know if it's the combination of clutch greatness, modeling shoots and the willingness of the media and public at large that chooses to ignore all of Tom's fairly dramatic off field faults that makes him so annoying, but that seems to hit it on the head.

Both of these guys are better than us. We are constantly reminded that they work harder, are better looking and are more successful than we could ever hope to be. They are both perfect in every way and have the love and adoration of their fans. Either could win the Governorship of Massachusetts and Indiana respectively. Brady has said he wants to be a politician when he retires (God help us, it makes me sick to think of having to look at Brady long after he's gone from the gridiron). Manning will probably keep making commercials until he's eighty years old. I guess the question really becomes which one of these two great QB's can sustain their annoyance level the longest. This is a very high standard they have set, but I am confident they can both live up to this standard for many, many years to come. I think in the end, it's a tie.(Editor's note:Which means fans of teams not named the Colts and Pats all lose) Oh, by the way....Pats 38 Colts 35 this Sunday.

Hit Like a Girl-Where Tom Brady Kicks Shoe Shopping's Ass

I’m almost ashamed to share with you what I wanted to do last Monday night. I’ll give you a hint: it did not involve watching the Patriots game.

Internet, I confess: I wanted to shop for shoes.

Last week I wrote about how hard it was to keep track of all the fall and winter sports teams. Well, it’s even more difficult when the September issue of Vogue is on news stands and it is Fashion Week in New York City. Let me tell you something: Fall fashion this year is as much fun as watching the Pats beat the Bills 25-24 with Tom Brady throwing for 2 touchdowns in the last five minutes of the game. I know, I know, Internet, you don’t get how the new line of Ferragamo or Hermes shoes can make a girl’s heart thump with joy.

Now you’re all mumbling, “Uhhh….poor girl…probably needs more protein in her diet…” So let’s move on…

When I arrived at my boyfriend’s house Monday night after my day job, I let him know I wanted shoes. I needed shoes. In fact I said, “I think I’m going to skip the game and go buy shoes at Aldo.”

The poor boy believes it is football season; I know it is shoe season. Heels, ankle boots, above the knee boots…it’s slightly more complicated than Belichick’s playbook, and possibly more crucial. He stared at me as if trying to find out if his girlfriend was a victim of alien abduction and I was some clone the space creatures had left in her place. That’s how I look at him when I’m trying to get his attention after a new video game has come out. He seems to be sitting in front of me, but actually, he goes away somewhere, far off, to a distant mental galaxy. It’s sort of a religious experience.

“It’s the first Patriots game of the year,” he explained.

“It’s just a game,” I said.

His jaw collided with the ground.

He likes me, so he explained, patiently. “It’s the Patriots. It’s Monday Night Football. Tom Brady. Patriots. First game back.”

I listed every typical woman excuse I could think of starting with, “I’m really tired,” to “I have a headache,” to “I have work to do.” All were true, I swear.

“But it’s the Patriots,” he said, as if the fact needed no further explanation. Go explain water to a fish.

So after much coaxing and guilt-tripping, I gave in. We went to his friend’s apartment to watch the game. I’m glad I went. In fact, I’m ecstatic that I went. In case you missed it while you were drooling over some Nine West Booties, Tom Brady threw thunderbolts to help the Pats come back from an 11-point deficit with five minutes left in the game.

I still can’t believe that happened. I saw it. In fact, just writing that makes me smirk while shaking my head in disbelief. A light was turned on in the gloom over Foxboro Stadium and a mighty voice from the sky intoned, “ I am Tom Brady. Lo and behold, I have been gone a year, but I have returned. Believe, puny Mortals, lest I smite thee with my right arm!”

It’s almost unfair, isn’t it? The man is a star quarterback, looks like a Greek God, and is married to a supermodel. A supermodel with great shoes.

Seriously though, how much fun is it to watch Patriots games? Did any of you forget in the off season? I sure as hell did. Thinking back to season’s past, we can all remember multiple games the Pats could not win—until they did, like magic, coming back from some ridiculous deficit. I’m missing patches of hair, my nails are gone, and I have a red mark on my forehead from all the times I smacked it in frustration. I’m going to die young if I continue to follow this sports team, but I’m not sure that I mind. There’s nothing like a fall breeze, football food, and a touchdown pass completion from Tom Brady to Randy Moss.

My boyfriend was right; it’s impossible not to get psyched about the Patriots. Even if you’re relatively clueless to the rules of the game, it’s physically impossible not to jump out of your seat and dance around, boogie, chest bump, whatever, when the Patriots invent a chance out of nothing to come back and win a game. In five minutes. This phenomenon still makes less sense to me than shoes, but damn it, I’ll take it.

In my shoe-loving defense, however, how in the hell am I supposed to steal Tom Brady away from Gisele without sexy, above the knee boots?

The 5 Stages of Grief for a Pats' Fan

STEP #1: SHOCK AND DENIAL

"Tom's fine, he may have sprained his knee or something minor like that. I think Belichick is just jerkin the league around and hopes that he can remove the target off of New England..............................no way is Tom Brady out for the year, uh-uh, no way.

Maybe a lesser man-ning couldn't have their knee hyper-extended like this and bounce back to find #84 23 times this season.....but we all know that Tom Brady was born on the planet Krypton and is invincible."

STEP #2: PAIN AND GUILT

"I should have been there, I should have been there to block Pollard..........I would have thrown all 5 and a half feet and 146 pounds of me into him. I may have died in the process and left nothing but a stack of bills for my wife and three kids to pay, but at least Tom would be okay. At least my kids would have Tom Brady to watch every weekend until the cable was shut off and child services took them. Oh god, no more number 12 out there behind center, no more sweet long balls to Moss, no more sticking it to the Bills and the Jets."

STEP #3: ANGER AND BARGAINING

"Goddamned Pollard.....and what the hell is Morris doing.....you take the penalty and keep your QB healthy.......and why did we have to go get Randy Moss, huh? If he couldn't stretch the field and our offense was dink and dunk, Tom never would have held the ball so long and Pollard could never have stuck his helmet right through Tom's knee and the collective hearts of Pats' fans everywhere. Why? Why did this have to happen? Maybe if we still had Reche Caldwell things would be okay. Sure we would get freaked out everytime there was a close up of him, but seeing this...............

Is a helluva lot easier than seeing this..........

Okay God.....I know I just got a little irrational back there, but if you could please make Tom Brady able to play all season, I will stop dr--I mean my brother will stop drinking and unwrapping those magazines at the local Rite Aid and read them while standing in line only to tell the cashier that you aren't buying because someone unwrapped it.........huh, whaddua say? Do we have a deal?"

STEP #4: DEPRESSION

"Oh god, he's really gone and he is not coming back.....nothing I can do can make him come back. What will I do without seeing Tom on our annual Fall, Sunday dates? Who is going to remind me that with all the evil-doers out there like the Mannings and LT that there is still some good to believe in? I know I've got school and my career, but what does that matter without Tom? I don't care about the rest of the team.....don't give me that sh*t, we don't have Tom......and Tom is more valuable than 100 USC QBs. What good is Randy Moss without Tom huh? Wes Welker isn't going to be the man in the middle without Tom. You can't convince me that the team will be fine.....we might as well be Jets fans, they don't have a decent starting quarterback either."

STEP #5: ACCEPTANCE

"You know, Matt Cassel isn't Tom Brady.....then again who is........but we've got talent around him and the defense is solid. Now maybe if Ellis Hobbit learns to cover someone the secondary won't be that much of a concern. And hey, we've got about 1,000 running backs on the roster......not to mention the greatest coach in the history of the NFL. Now I am not saying Super Bowl, but there is still a chance for the AFC East and maybe a run to the Conference Championship....then who knows. Man, I am going to go buy supplies for Sunday...like the Sox said 4 years ago when things were looking bleak:

IT'S TIME TO COWBOY UP

Monday Morning's Painful Quick Hitters

Well is there any other story, really, that matters to most of the NFL world today. Here is a round-up of stories regarding Tom Brady and his apparent ACL tear. Sirius NFL Radio reported and confirmed that Chris Simms and Tim Rattay are heading to Foxboro Monday.

As all of New England is distracted by Tom Brady's injury, the Boston Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 7 - 2 behind Paul Byrd and Big Papi. The win combined with Tampa Bay Rays 1 - 0 loss to the Blue Jays, leaves the Red Sox just 1 1/2 games out of 1st place.

The AL Central stayed the same Sunday as the White Sox lost to the California Angels 3 - 2 and the Minnesota Twins lost to the Detroit Tigers 7 - 5.

The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies split a day night double header keeping the Mets lead over the Phils at 2 games in the NL East.

The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers both lost on Sunday, so the Cubs lead over the Brew Crew stays at 4 games. Chicago loses to the Reds 4 - 3 and the Brewers lose to the Padres, as Chris Young loses a perfect game bid in the 8th inning, 10 -1.

The Loas Angeles Dodgers go 1 1 /2 games ahead of the Diamondbacks by beating Arizona 5 - 3.

Brady Update-Welcome to the Matt Cassel Era

A Patriots Players has told ESPN's Trent Dilfer that "Cassel is our QB for the rest of the year"

Pro Football Talk is reporting Brady has a torn ACL

There is a rumor out there now that Brady will have an MRI tomorrow, however I don't think a Pats player would make a comment like that. I do not know if Gillette has an MRI machine, but let's put it this way, I doubt we see Brady again this year....

UPDATE:From WEEI.COM

An NFL source close to the situation has told WEEI.com's Ron Borges that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has a torn ACL in his left knee. -- Rob Bradford (Aug. 7, 7:24 p.m.)

The Nut Kick Stomach Cramps

Today's causes of Nut-Kick Stomach Cramps, because nothing hurts worse-

-Tom Brady's knee injury
-Vince Young's knee injury
-The Panthers last second win against the Chargers (I took the Panthers to win straight-up, but I am sure Chargers fans and people who took SD on the money line had some cramps)
-Cleveland fans watching their defense
